Neuros and Texas Instruments create new bounty program for next-gen Open Internet Television Platform

Press Release: For release April 21, 2008

Neuros, in partnership with Texas Instruments, is pleased to announce the creation of a new bounty program for its Open Internet Television HDPlatform. Patterned off Neuros’ previous successes with community bounties and the Google Summer of Code Program, TI and Neuros have partnered to support the free software developer community with a six month phased program that will release a host of bounties to build and optimize this new platform.

“Neuros has been doing open development using free software for years, but TI's support for this initiative represents a significant milestone, not just for Open Internet Television Platforms, but open electronics generally,” said Mark Denissen, vice president, Worldwide Strategic Marketing, TI. “With a 55 percent market share in the 1 billion unit worldwide mobile phone market, TI has a significant influence throughout the entire electronics industry, and will become a key player in the proliferation of Free/Open Source Software.”

The goal of this program is to make development on this Open Internet Television HDPlatform as easy as creating a web page.

“The hardware behind this device is extremely attractive. Its combination of performance, price and energy efficiency cannot be matched by any PC. By porting the key software elements, we remove the barriers that have traditionally kept that hardware from reaching its full potential, and bringing Internet television applications to an actual television,” said Joe Born, CEO of Neuros Technology.

“Supporting this development in an open way with these bounties reflects TI's commitment to not only support free software, but to involve the communities that build the software. This insures that those communities are aware of what we're doing, and that code improvements are efficiently returned to those communities and made available to all,” said Jason Kridner, principal architect, Open Platforms, TI.

Bounties will be rolled out over the next six months. Applications for the first bounties are being accepted immediately. For more information on current bounties and to be notified as new ones are released,

Information about the Neuros/TI Open Internet Television HDPlatform is currently under development, with information being released as it becomes available. Engineering samples will be made available to select developers, with broad availability scheduled for Q3 '08. The Open Internet Television HDPlatform will be based on TI's TMS320DM644x DSPs SOCs for more information, see TI's Davinci SoC page

The open Open Internet Television HDPlatform initiative is a part of TI's over all strategy supporting Free/Open Source Software. For more information on this and other TI initiatives see http://opensource.ti.com
